A Proposal for Sustainable Employment in Punjab
The escalating unemployment rates in Punjab are a deep and worsening concern for all who care about the state's future. This proposal outlines a practical, innovation-driven approach to create meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities within Punjab.
As a retired engineer currently residing in California, I bring a unique blend of entrepreneurial and manufacturing expertise. My career began with founding a manufacturing company in Boston, where I specialized in developing and producing my own proprietary products.
Throughout this journey, I frequently partnered with suppliers in India, particularly in Punjab, for critical components, prototypes, machines, and fixtures.
This extensive collaboration has provided me with a firsthand understanding of Punjab's inherent talent, manufacturing capabilities, diverse production processes, and the prevailing economic environment.
My core strategy revolves around identifying specific unmet product needs in the North American market (USA and Canada). I will then rigorously evaluate these opportunities for their potential to be developed and manufactured in Punjab.
A key criterion for selection will be a robust value-to-profit profile, ensuring that the ventures can comfortably absorb the additional overhead associated with international logistics and export.
Currently, I have two new products of my own design already under development in Punjab.
A fundamental principle of this initiative will be the exclusive focus on patentable products. This strategic choice is crucial for discouraging counterfeits and securing the long-term viability and profitability of these ventures.
I am particularly optimistic about the young, motivated talent pool in Punjab. For instance, I collaborate with a young mechanical engineer who is a gold medalist, holds one patent, and is working on a second. There are many more like him, eager for meaningful work.
My role in this initiative will encompass:
Identifying niche market opportunities in North America.
Evaluating product feasibility for design and manufacturing within Punjab.
Guiding the technical team in Punjab through the precise design and
development of prototypes to validate concepts.
Overseeing rigorous field testing of these prototypes.
Collecting comprehensive performance and reliability data, and benchmarking these against existing state-of-the-art products.
Strategically showcasing and actively promoting these products for sale in the USA and Canadian markets.
Orchestrating all necessary arrangements for international export and sales.
The profitability of this venture hinges on leveraging Punjab's competitive cost structure, including its lower overheads and labor costs, which are anticipated to more than offset the complexities of global trade.
To attract and retain the best talent, participants in this initiative will be compensated at a rate higher than prevailing wages in the region. Initially, we will prioritize utilizing existing available resources and infrastructure, a pragmatic approach I've consistently applied in my own entrepreneurial endeavors.
As this venture gains significant momentum, it can be strategically scaled into a larger, self-sustaining enterprise, thereby fostering broader economic growth and stability across Punjab.
While my primary strengths lie in technical execution and entrepreneurship, I recognize the critical importance of collaborative leadership. I believe that engaging with well-meaning public leaders, wise community figures, social activists, and dedicated volunteers will be invaluable for structuring and formally establishing the most effective entity for this initiative.
Furthermore, I am fortunate to have the support of my friend, Dr. Santokh S Badesha, a distinguished individual with a doctorate from PAU Ludhiana and nearly 300 patents, who will be actively assisting me in this endeavor. Also have the cooperation of world level scientists.
I eagerly solicit feedback and collaboration from like-minded associates who share this vision for creating a prosperous future for Punjab.
